Quick fix: Go to NordVPN settings → Enable Obfuscated Servers. This is the single most important setting for UAE — without it, Etisalat and du will detect and block your connection. If obfuscation is already on and still failing, switch to a UK or Germany server and try again.
NordVPN works in UAE — but only when obfuscated servers are enabled. Etisalat (e&) and du use deep packet inspection (DPI) to identify and block standard VPN traffic. Without obfuscation, NordVPN's connection is detected and blocked at the ISP level.
When NordVPN suddenly stops working in UAE it's almost always one of three reasons:
Open NordVPN → Settings → Advanced → toggle Obfuscated Servers on. Then reconnect. This resolves the majority of UAE blocking issues. Note: obfuscated servers only work with OpenVPN protocol — NordVPN will switch automatically when you enable them.
NordVPN released NordWhisper in late 2025 — a newer protocol that disguises VPN traffic as ordinary HTTPS web browsing. More reliable than obfuscated servers on heavily restricted networks, particularly du. Available on Windows, Android and Linux only (macOS/iOS support added mid-2026 — check your app). To enable: Settings → General → Protocol → NordWhisper. Note: NordWhisper is 20-40% slower than NordLynx but a slower working connection beats a faster blocked one.
Your current server IP may be on Etisalat or du's blocklist. Disconnect and try a different server — UK, Germany or India are the fastest and most reliable from UAE. India is closest geographically for lower latency. Avoid US servers which are commonly blocked and have higher latency. Note: with obfuscated servers enabled, only servers specifically configured for obfuscation appear in the list.
NordVPN releases updates specifically to counter UAE ISP blocking. Open your app store and update to the latest version — this often restores connectivity without any other changes needed.
On mobile, switch airplane mode on for 10 seconds then off. This forces your device to get a fresh IP from Etisalat or du and can reset the ISP-level block. Then reconnect NordVPN with obfuscated servers enabled.
